Websites are often the first source of information and resources for many institutions, from contact information, to frequently asked questions, to event pages and calendars. For many with accessibility needs, websites are also a source of frustration--each accessibility barrier becoming one of a hundred 'digital papercuts'. Learn not only what barriers to look out for, but also how to use automatic tools, manual testing, and prioritization/inventory guides to evaluate your sites for basic web accessibility issues.

Learning Objectives:

• Identify key accessibility barriers to look out for when creating or editing sites.
• Receive a demo of manual and automatic tools used to evaluate website accessibility.
• Determine when to remediate, remove, or restructure content when barriers are found.

Presenter:
Jack Garrard is the Web Accessibility Specialist for University of Maryland College Park, with 9 years of experience with digital accessibility in higher education and 4 years at the federal level. He specializes in music braille, PDF remediation, and web testing, with a passion for training others on how to create accessible materials.
