Microsoft Office Accessibility Basics: Microsoft Word Online
Location: Virtual (Zoom). Will be recorded and posted to the Maryland Libraries Training Academy on Niche.
Description:
Microsoft Office softwares like Word, Powerpoint, and Excel are some of the most prevalent softwares for creating and editing documents.This session is designed to guide participants in learning how to use style and design tools within Word to format their documents in accordance with basic accessibility standards. Learn how to confidently evaluate and remediate your Word documents to meet Title II standards!
Learning Objectives:
- Use Word's Accessibility Checker correctly.
- Use Word's design and styling tools to properly format headings, links, tables, images, and media.
- Properly export Word files for use in other formats such as PDFs.
- Translate accessibility pathways in Word to GSuite correctly.
- Identify at least two resources to guide those in need of accessibility features for Word.
Presenter:
Jack Garrard is the Web Accessibility Specialist for University of Maryland College Park, with 9 years of experience with digital accessibility in higher education and 4 years at the federal level. He specializes in music braille, PDF remediation, and web testing, with a passion for training others on how to create accessible materials.
