Building Library Programs That Speak to Emerging Adults Online
Location: Virtual (Zoom)
This professional development session explores how libraries can authentically connect with emerging adult (ages 18-29) audiences by reimagining the library as a vibrant third place—a welcoming environment beyond home and work where the elusive emerging adults can belong, create, and grow. Participants will hear about the impact of inclusive and relevant programs such as coworking clubs, foraging workshops, and LGBTQ-centered makeup classes. The session emphasizes understanding emerging adults’ values of community, identity, and autonomy, and how libraries can meet these through intentional, inclusive program design. Presenter: Ash Baker (they/them), Instructor & Research Specialist, Howard County Library System
