Youth Showcase: Summer Idea Toolkit Tour Online

Wednesday, October 8, 1:00-2:00pm

Description:

Where do you start in planning summer programs and services? When do you book engaging performers for special programs and how do you find them? What elements will make an engaging summer reading program/challenge? What resources are available to help with graphics, local partnerships, and reaching all families in your communities, even those who haven’t discovered the library but could really benefit from library summer programs and library services and resources, year-round?

All these questions and needs can be met by using the Maryland Summer Idea Toolkit, a portal of resources developed by the Summer Reading Advisory Council (SRAC).  This Showcase will provide a “tour” of the Maryland Summer Idea Toolkit to attendees so they are aware of the wealth of internal documents available to Maryland library staff to help them plan for summer, as well as several external organizations and tools that also support summer services planning.  This Showcase will also allow time for discussion amongst attendees to facilitate everyone’s preparation for next summer, at an appropriate time in the annual planning cycle for summer programs and services.

Learning Objectives -- Participants will be able to:

  • Find the virtual Maryland Summer Idea Toolkit and know its web address
  • Name two Maryland-created Directories that are available on this website to assist with summer services planning
  • Name at least one other Maryland internal document or template that will be helpful for them in summer services planning
  • Name one external organization, application, or tool that will help in planning summer programs and services
