Communities in Crisis: partnering to tackle the literacy crisis Online
Join us for our next Knowledge Builder Webinar session with Jennifer Eisenreich of Shift Show Commication! As library staff, you tend and curate collections that represent history told in ways anyone can understand. You fight for the accurate versions of history to be protected and made available. You protect truth in all forms. You represent the stories that inspire, inform, and delight; written in ways that reflect the spirit of every person. Your relationship with students and patrons opens the door to their relationship with actual reality, ways to cope with it, and intelligent distractions from it. Despite everything you do, our communities are in crisis when it comes to literacy.
In this session, we will discuss:
- The literacy crisis and why our rates are dropping
- The conditions worsening the epidemic
- The phone-based childhood
- What it is, why it is dangerous, what it looks like statistically
- How we can lead efforts for kids (all ages) and families to unplug
- The phone-based childhood
- Making connections with the community and other organizations
- Why connecting with the people in our libraries is crucial and why it is difficult
- How it is the beginning of successful leadership in this thought area
- The way connections are built through simple interactions
