SMRLA Region Only: Polaris Basics- Navigation & Holds

This workshop is for staff of the three SOMD library systems. Please contact SMRLA to register. 

Join us for this training designed to equip library staff with essential skills for navigating the Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS). Participants will learn how to perform effective searches, understand the differences between various search types, and master the process of placing holds. Through hands-on practice, interactive activities, and real-world scenarios, staff will gain the confidence and competence needed to efficiently manage patron requests and enhance overall library service.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this orientation, participants will be able to:

  1. Navigate the Polaris ILS Interface.
  2. Conduct basic record searches.
  3. Understand the steps for placing and managing holds.
  4. Apply problem-solving techniques in practical scenarios and interactive activities.

This course aims to build solid foundational skills for using the Polaris ILS, ensuring that all library staff can effectively utilize the system to support library patrons and operations.
